How Do I syncronize product images ?

Hello I am having trouble getting images syncronized with VM3

I am using VM 3.0.6.4 and Joomla 3.4.1

I want to use this directory structure for the product images:

product
    lenscaps
    lenshoods
    resized
         lenscaps
         lenshoods
         straps
         tripods
    straps
    tripods

If I manually upload an image with ftp I can get it to load in the right place, for example product/lenscaps. Then I have tried to syncronize media files but they don´t seem to be syncronized. I can´t find them in Media files. What am I missing here ?

Directory assigned under Configuration/Templates for the product images is: images/stories/virtuemart/product

I have also tried uploading through the Media manager or through the Image upload under the Product menu, but both just loads the file to the directory product, not the subdirectory lenscaps. Even though I change path before uplaoding the file. Then i have to go to product images and change the file path of the loaded file to product/lenscaps to find the file that was uploaded with ftp to products/lenscaps. The thumb for the file is then created as expected under product/resized/lenscaps. But this means uploading the file twice. Once to products/lenscaps and once to products. What am I missing here ?
