Version 2.6.14 vs 3.02?

Hi, I'm using version 2.6.6 and I see that the most recent releases on the download files page are versions 2.6.14 and 3.02. Is 3.02 a continuation of 2.6.14 or a different version altogether? I prefer the design on 2.6.14 - can I upgrade to that and be ok?

Is there a chance an upgrade from 2.6.6 to 2.6.14 will affect design overrides that I've made?

VM3.0.2 is a greatly improved version of VM, with added and revised functions and a much improved template system. See it in operation on http://extensions.virtuemart.net/  and a review of improvemenyts on http://virtuemart.net/news/latest-news/465-virtuemart-3-is-here  and  http://virtuemart.net/news/latest-news/466-klik-pay-is-included-in-virtuemart-2-6-14-and-virtuemart-3-0-2

VM 2.6.14 is for use on Joomla 2.5.x while VM3.x is suitable for J2.5.x and J3.x

If you used template overrides then there should be no problems in updating 2.6.6 to 2.6.14  but test on a backup copy of your site first.

Stick with vm2.6 first. There is no plan to drop vm2.6, it is just "end of development", that means that we concentrate on VM3 and do only important fixes for vm2.6.x series.

Thanks! I didn't have a chance to reply sooner.

followup question: If I have a live VM install in one subdirectory and I installed a test VM version in another subdirectory, how can I test how my live existing overrides and products appear on the test install? I backed up the live install with Akeeba - can I access that and restore it to the test install?

I would install the backup on a subdirectory using a different database from the original then you can test updates directly on that. Easier than copying all data over using ftp and phpMyAdmin.

Just a question regarding versions: why is it that 2.6.14 seems to be a newer and later version than 2.6.8 which have a higher version number? I don´t see the logic here.

UMMMM. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 etc.  Or do you count differently?

IIn downloads section the latest version of 2.6.8 (higher number) is from 2014-08-15. The lower numbered 2.6.14 is from 2014-12-02.
But anyhow: if I want the most up to date VM2 version, which should I get?

2.6.14   - again, 14 is higher than 8  (6 full versions higher)

Facepalm... now I get it! I interpreted the numbering in the way that 2.6.8 meant 2.6.80. Stupid me. Sorry for taking your time with this :-/
