Redirects within Virtuemart

I have a dilemma. I am currently setting up a shop which to be begin with will only have one product. The homepage for my shop is the category view. This single product is nested in its own category because it is expected that more products will come in this category. But for now there is just one.

Landing on the homepage of the shop one sees the product category. From there they land inside the category which then shows the product listing with just the one product which they click on to go to the product details page. For now I would like to establish a simple redirect which allows users who land on the homepage to go straight to the product details page by clicking on the product category link on the homepage. This would remove the intermediary step of clicking through the product category which only has the one product.

How do I go about doing this. The Joomla! redirect manager does not seem to work for this.

You could just use a joomla menu set up link... that way you could set a direct link to the product
You could just make the product a featured product and it will show on the front page and hide categories
You could just set up an embedded html page with one photo of your product and a hot link.
I see people have just one product and put an image in an article and then just have a URL web link set..


later you just go back to the normal set up..

I don't understand how this would work as a redirect. Perhaps I am not visualising one of your proposed steps. Could you explain this to me more clearly?
