how to use default price and custom price

I would appreciate some help on a problem I cannot solve.
I m using Joomla! 2.5.14 with virtuemart 2.0.22b
All my products have prices assigned to default shopper group and some of them have prices assigned to custom shopper groups I have created. All shoppers are assigned to the default shopper group and some of them are assigned to their own custom shopper group.
That causes me the following problem. 
When shopper1, for example, has default and custom1 shopper groups assigned to him the system ignores the custom1 shopper group price (which is always lower)  and shows the default shopper group price at the shop front. What I want is to show the custom price and only if there isn't custom price to show, then show  the default price.  Is it possible?

Assign the shopper just to the custom group and not both groups should work.They will only see the custom group specific price if a product has a price set for that group.

Yes this is how it works , but what i want is when a product has no custom price  to show the defautl price. Is that posible.?

If no custom group price has been assigned then yes, the default price should be displayed - ensure that Enable shoppergroup specific price display is not set for the default goup.
