Child items for a different shopper group are still visible in variant dropdown

In VM 2026c, I have a parent item that is available to all, but one of its child items, a case pack, should only be visible to my wholesale group.  It is assigned correctly to the wholesale group only, but everyone can see it in the drop down.  When selected, it results in a product not found error.
