I use VM 2.0.20b in my 2.5 Joomla site. When I read about all the trouble, I wonder what is the benefit for upgrade to 2.0.24 when the site rund fine as it is right now. Last upgrade was also not fluently even with template override.

That version has known critical security issues, so you should not be using it on a live site. Issue was announced in http://virtuemart.net/news/latest-news/446-important-security-release-vm-team-at-joomladay-germany where there are notes on overrides, and we are now at 2.0.24 with 2.0.24a with enhancements and bug fixes to be released very soon, including fixes for issues introduced with th J2.0.16 update..

Oh dear Fred  :(

Keep ALL your plugins/modules/templates etc up to date with security patches.

Let us hope your next post does not start with "help, my site has been hacked"

Upgrading can be difficult, especially if you have customised templates and plugins, but you should have been aware of that when deciding on a template and plugins for your site.

All software will have "patches" over its' lifetime and you will make a judgement as to whether they are worrht the effort for upgrading or whether you will wait for the next major upgrade.

In cases of security upgrades/patches you would be unwise to skip.

After upgrading a local copy of the site successfully, I did the same upgrade fro 2.0.20b to 2.0.24c on the live site where I get strange phenomena:

First of all strange versioning confusion (b version reported newer than c version, see attachment) and secondly I cannot get com_virtuemart.2.0.24c_ext_aio.tar.gz installed. Locally also no problem.

GCJ Webdesign: you are right. Now the version looks OK and I get no notification anymmore for upgrading. So far so good, also with the website. Also I could install the aio extension. Only one strange "problem" is on category sorting:

When you see the order of the categories: http://keyboard-centrum.nl/nl/assortiment and compare with http://staging1.keyboard-centrum.nl/nl/assortiment, the latter is alphabetic, but we want the order is as on the current live website. I tried using the famous arrows for sorting, but even if the keyboard category is moved to the first position, I cannot get custom ordering. Who knows the answer. When I get this fixed I can go live with 2.02.24c :)
