number of displayed products

howsit guys, so im having an issue witha  clients site, i have many products and i used to use the option to display products per page via the selector 5/10/15,
now for some odd reason, whenever i try and change the amount of pictures to be viewed on the site it just goes back to 10, and teh selection bar does not work,

please assist me with this as i am not sure what or where i went wrong!
