How to display error messages in Register/Edit form?

We have our register form with a couple of custom shopper fields and we would like to validate them (that's already being done) and, when there's an error, print a message with the error description to the user.

The ideal was too print it in the right side of the texbox, but I guess that something like debug messages would be good enough.
