Hi,

I couldn't get my website to install virtuemart 2.0.20, so I resorted to a manual installation - uploading the files via FTP.
Anyhoo - the component is still not showing up. I have tried Extensions > Discover - Still doesn't pick it up.
Tried doing it the old way like with 1.5 where you put yoursite.com/administrator/index2.php?option=com_virtuemart - also not working.
ARGH!!!!! very frustrated! Please help :)

Thanks in advance!

Hi guys,

I get this error:

JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file

Thats the reason I tried installing manually.
Does manual installation not work with Joomla 3?
I am still looking for a solution on the URL that was provided.. Any ideas though?

And also, just so you know, I DID unzip the file first.
Have tried installing com_virtuemart.2.0.22c.tar.gz and com_virtuemart.2.0.22c_ext_aio.tar.gz (both get the same error)

Currently VM is for J2.5 only.

crap :(
my client is insisting on Joomla 3.
I wouldn't want to use any other shopping cart system. :(

You could find and read thread on this forum about J3 and VM. Tell your client that not all complex solutions (like VM shopping cart) are able to work good on just released J3. It could be not very stable web shop. Not all tests were made. And .. why for your client it's important to use J3?

Work is due to start this month on making VM2.1 compatible with J3. Initially I guess this will be for J3.2 but this Joomla version is only in alpha at the moment. Programming a large component such as a shopping system for a short term release Joomla version is a problem, as it must be tested extensively and updated to work with new J functions every 6 months. And with short term supported Joomla versions every site owner has to go though the 6 monthly process of updating Joomla and testing installed templates and components for compatibility.  Much better to work where possible to provide stable components for long term supported Joomla versions, J2.5, J3.5 etc.
