Shipping option if all cart items are non perishable

The store I setup sells two different types of products, perishable and non perishable. I am looking for a shipping module for j2.5/virtuemart that allows me to display a lower cost shipping option if all the products in the cart are non perishable. Anyone know a hack that can accomplish this, or a module/plug that adds similar abilities? I can either tell the shipping logic to look at a product category to determine if it's perishable/non-perishable or each product, doesn't matter to me.

I think I'd use an "indicator" for one of the product types such as a weight and assign shipping rates according to weight >1 or <1 for example.
