Create Market Place functionality (user creates products)

Hi,

I could not find any entries regarding this issue:
is it possible to create a shop that also allows users to create and offer products- including all related management? This is known e.g. with Amazon Market Place or basically all of ebay.
Could it be done with either on-board functionality or add-ons?

The demo admin account is not letting me in, so I could not take a look. Any help is highly appreciated!

ATM VirtueMart 2 can provide administered multi-vendor. See http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=107588.0 for some of the issues involved in developing this further.

This sounds great already! Thank you ver much for your input. Keywords like 'multivendor' did not cross my mind when looking for this.
