Child Products with plugin - where do they show up

Hi guys, I am just going over a new product and I am getting around to giving the child/parent products and stockable plugin again after giving it a wide berth for quite some time.

The plugin seems to work quite nicely when adding a new child from the parent, so initially I added the parent and then three child products. One had no price set intentionally and I set a price on the others to cover all bases. The issue I am having is that after adding these child products I cannot see them anywhere, I had assumed that they would show up as options in the parent but nothing so far.

I also can order the parent without it flagging up any options so I assume either something is wrong or I have set it up incorrectly.

If someone who has used and setup the child products with the stockable plugin could just drop in and let me know if or what i am missing I would appreciate it as I need stock control on this product for definite - I cannot work around it now.

Just to add to this, if I add the category into the child products they obviously show up in the appropriate category, however this is not what I need and for clarity I am expecting that stockable child products would show up in the parent item in the same way the generic child item does but just with stock control involved.

If this is not how the stockable plugin works please someone explain how to do something as simple as child options in a parent 'shell' with stock control.

**edited** I managed to get the child variants showing now but the process seems a little convoluted (perhaps) by using the stockable plugin which allows me to add new child products in the parent backend but then the second step was to add a second custom field being generic child variant and leaving it on product SKU in the parent - this brings all child products into a dropdown.

Is this really the way to get child products displayed? use a plugin custom field and then a second custom field? Or am I missing something.

In any case as long as this can work and is not likely to be ripped out and changed again I could make it work.

thanks
