Add custom field to child product

Hi,

I have product with child product, every child should have a different size, but when assigning a custom field to child product and press save, the field is not assigned.

the product schema:
   shoe (has price)
     + shoe size: 8
     + shoe size: 9
      .....

How to do this?

on the top of the custom fields tab enable the checkbox "Overwrite plugin values of the parent"

If I do that, i lose the "Generic child variant" dropdown of all child products.
I migrated a VM1 shop to VM2, in VM1 there is a dropdown that lists all the child product, but in the dropdown the "size" is displayed in the dropdown title, like:

Generic child variant:
product - cust.field - price
---------------------------------
Shoe 01 - Str (9) - $39.99
Shoe 02 - Str (10) - $39.99
Shoe 03 - Str (11) - $39.99

Is there a way to replicate that logic?

atm you can use either all customs from the parent or only own customs for the childs

it is changed in VirtueMart 2.2
