Shipping weight, fixed quanities and pricing based on quanity; Printing Industry

Greetings,

Has anyone build a cart for the printing industry?

Using VM 2.0 cart variants the customer can chose fixed quantities of printed materials; in increments of 250 sheets.  Each increment has a different price NOT based on a fixed uniformed percentage.  The way the current cart is set up the customer chooses the from a cart variant drop down the desired increment, but the increment gives a quantity of 1 in the quantity field.

Having a quantity of one does not give the correct shipping weight - in product creation the weight and dimension is based on a single sheet of paper.

If the product was treated as a (half) ream and cart variants were used....is there a way to have each variant update the quantity field?  So from the customer perspective they would select 500 sheets at $30, which should show up in quantity as 2,  750 = 3, 1000 = 4 etc.

Is there a way this can be accomplished?

Thanks
Ivey

The quantity requirements can be met, but your problem is going to be adjusting the product weight if you need that for shipping. Can't be done right now without a hack unless you use child products.

Nice...thanks.

I am interested in the hack.  Would like to avoid child products since it created problems of its own.

iStraxx Quantity is already installed.  Is the hack something you could guide me to do or what would it cost for the hack?

You might want to get a quote from iStraxx first, since it's his plugin. He's probably the best person to modify it.

If he can't take the work on for whatever reason, we'd be happy to provide a quote. Just open a presales ticket at https://polishedgeek.com/clients/contact.php - thanks!
