Bug: Child product weight not inherited

When I add a new product and give it child products the weight is automatically set to 0.0000. Since empty(0.0000) is not true the product doesn't inherit the parents weight and it is impossible to select shipping that is based on weight.

If I manually update the database and set weight = NULL everything works as I would expect, would it be possible to update virtuemart so that when you save a child product weight is set to NULL rather than 0.0000?
