API - Gateway payment

Hi,
I developed a website for a client that has his own payment gateway. Similar to Authorize.net. What is the process to create a payment method other than the methods already installed in VirtueMart v.2.0.18a. The documentation that i found is for older versions of VM and i assume that the process has changed.
