Did you follow the steps described here: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=104901.0?
Additional VirtueMart language packs are available here: http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/files (Initially you can use the 2.0.16 language pack).

But when I try to create new category - I have only one language and no dropdown menu.

1. Check if you have all three languages in the Virtuemart Configuration > Language Settings - Multilingual shop selection field.
2. If you click on "New" category, there is no language selection dropdown. The new category will be created for your default site language and after you clicked on "Save" a language dropdown list will show, where you can translate the new category name for the other two languages.

Hi all,

I know that this topic is not recent. But I've found it and I want to say something:

It seems that using multilanguage in Virtuemart means that the whole website has to be in the language that you want to edit in Virtuemart. If this is really so, it means that a live site will change into the edit language. I think this is a very bad situation, and I think that it should be possible to change language within Virtuemart, and not within Joomla. Why is this not so? :-\

I have the same problem here with Joomla3+VM3 and I also think this is VERY stupid solution.

VM does have a dropdown language selection. What do you think is a stupid solution?

Yes, it has but only when you add new product. If you want to see/edit products in other languages you have to change site default language(!?). Not to mention situation when you already have products in English language and you later install other languages - thriller!

If your Joomla and VirtueMart multilanguage configuration is correct, you should always see the language dropdown list when you want to edit a product. If your default site language in Joomla is Serbian, VirtueMart will switch back to the default site language each time you click on 'Save'. But you can always select for example English from the dropdown list and edit the product text in English.
See screenshot attached.

Well, that's not my case.
I only see language switcher when adding new product or category.
If I want to see products in other language(s) I have to change site default language.
Currently running VM 3.0.8 and J3.4.5 with PHP 5.4.45

Did you check for javascript errors with tools like Firebug? Might be a conflict with another extension.
