Problem with child product dropdown menu

Hi!
Got a product with childs but have an issue with the dropdowm menu.
When the main product is presented the buy-button prompts for chosing a variant. Problem is that I cannot chose the first child in the dropdown directly. I first have to chose one of the other childs and then click on the first child to make it my choice.

Is this suppose to be or have I messed something up in settings?

Version: Joomla 2.5.8 VM 2.0.18a

Solved this by using the custom field: Cart Variant instead. Now I can sort the variants and the first one in the dropdown can be chosen without problems.
Only glitch here was that the swedish word for "free" appeared on the variants which had no price addition to the parent. Kind of confusing for customers. Wonder who translated that part to swedish... But that could be corrected in the swedish translation file. Put something equivalent to "No price addition" there instead.

Though: must say that the use of custom fields is not that straightforward to grasp for a noob like me :-). But I´m getting there...
