Custom Fields Part Deux

Hi

Ok, I've got half way there but I'm at the hair tearing out stage now.

Each product has a choice of colours.  So, this is what I'm doing:

Custom Field - Type=Parent - Is a list=Yes - Name=Colours - Not cart variant
Custom Field - Type=Image - Parent is Colours - Name=Black - Is cart variant
Custom Field - Type=Image - Parent is Colours - Name=Blue - Is cart variant

Go to product, add custom field for colours, choose the correct image for black and for blue.

Go to front end.  Yep, both images are appearing with a radio button next to each one.

Both radio buttons are selected and I can't make it so that the visitor can only select ONE colour.

This is driving me insane!  Please help.
