Virtue mart cart won't show up when I click the menu link on my site.

Hi!
So I am not very computer savvy, I don't know website building lingo or anything.
We had a site built for us, but the cart they added didn't have features we needed for our business,
But instead of fixing it the website designer has stopped answering phone calls, emails, etc.
so anyway I tried to add virtue mart myself, added all the programs required to my pc, it seemed to load
Ok. Added the link that is suppose to take customer to the carts "homepage", but when I click it
I get nothing. I've added product and hopefully got all the info required, so I'm not sure what I'm missing?!
It has mentioned I has no safe path? But I have no idea how to translate the instructions for making one!! :{
I'm hoping someone on here will be able to give me a virtue cart for dummies lesson!
We've been waiting an incredibly not cool 6 months for this site (quote was for a month) and we can't launch
without a cart!
Any help would he AMAZING!! Thank you!

You may benefit from reading the manuals, http://oscmanuals.com/virtuemart-fdm-26.html (written for beginners) and http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/wiki  but setting up Joomla & VirtueMart does require a level of knowledge and skill that you may not have, and it sounds like your "designer" did not have those abilities either.
