Search by attribute (For example, products with colour red)

I am creating a website for an art distribution company and it is important that their clients can search by attributes (abstract paintings, colour=red etc). I am new to virtuemart and have been looking for a solution for days without any luck.

Is there a specific module/extension that will allow me to do this or something built into Virtuemart itself that I am missing?

*using Virtuemart 2.0 running on Joomla 2.5*
