VM 2 Sort by 2 options

We have a site with products that are currently being sorted by ID... I am trying to add the option in to also sort by SKU.
SO that products are sorted and displayed by ID first and then sorted by SKU next, is this possible?

As per my knowledge you can do it by setting out the parameters with short type and sort field in column header coding. So your user will select as per their requirement and product will sort out according to selection.
