please help me understand child product

I tried searching the forums but have not found the answer I'm looking.
I'm following the Virtuemart 2.0 and any update I try to create 1 Products father and 1 prodcut child to see if i can get the same result was obtained with virtuemart 1.9, but this does not happen.
i like to have a simle result;
1 product father with some product child, any product child have a different price, different image and different STOCK quantity ( this is simle to make with vm 1.9)
i have try to use this solution: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=100480.45 but the result is not the same because all product have the same image.
My question is this:
the current operation ( product child) is correct or is it a bug that is fixed in next time?
