Image on product details page showing up as white square

This is on a fresh install of Joomla 2.5 and newest version of VM (as of posting)

Product details page using default layout:

the thumbnails show up normally however the main image is only showing up as a white square.  when you click the thumbnail the large image does show up.

Trying to correctly display the main image on the product details page.. any ideas?
