Hi
I want to ensure virtuemart is correctly configured since i seem to be struggling to upload my products with csvi
is there a checklist of tasks which need to be completed prior to setting product categories and inputing products.

Also is there a database schema available for download to show the relationships between the tables.

Exporting the whole product table with csvi 4 doesn't appear to work correctly since the product name and product descriptions are blank is this because the names and descriptions are stored outside the product table?
Importing products is also failing to work in a strange way
If i add a product sku name and description and category id , while the information appears to be loaded
no new products are listed in products although there seems to be an increased number of products in the statistics

Can anyone help please

If you are having problems with CSVI then I suggest you ask RolandD on http://www.csvimproved.com

Thanks to roland I find the problems i was having importing into virtuemart with csvi are down to an incomplete configuration of virtuemart and joomla.

namely the global configuration requires default languages being set in site - control panel - language manager without this being set products are not going to appear in the product list when they are imported.

The problems i was having were due to my incomplete configuration of joomla and virtuemart, not rolands very useful tool.

I understand that setting working defaults will almost always mean that they are incorrect for some if not the majority of users however a fully working configuration can be adjusted to the requirements of each site, and there are a few that need to be set up that i know about such as the default currency and language and maybe a few more I don't yet know about. Which is why I asked if there is a checklist of tasks which need to be completed.

Everything is very new and understandably documentation lags behind the releases of this complex project. However something is needed to avoid many hours of frustration for new users (and old when major changes occur) with this otherwise excellent project.

it feels good to finally see the light after around 4 days of trying to make this work :)

Like most, I only use one language so never have that problem. The laguage setting is mentioned in the FAQ, but not everybody reads it. http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=95236

i see in the post headed migrate update from VM1 to VM2 Point No. 7

It doesn't really say anything about it being essential to a brand new fresh install, which it is if you wish to avoid premature baldness and being grumpy
