Back to (subcategory) link on Product Description pages

I have an e-commerce site with categories and subcategories.

When you are on a subcategory and select a product to view the Products Descriptions page, at the bottom there is a << Back to ..... link which takes you back to the main subcategory listing.

The issue is that when you create a new subcategory the << Back to ..... link does not appear on the Product description page. Where do I locate this feature so that it can be enabled for all product description pages. I have searched every section of the back end and cannot locate it anywhere.
