What is the point of the Inventory item in backend?

So Im looking at this inventory page in the VM backend under "Products" ... are there any plans to make it do more? It seems the only thing it does now is show the original stock I entered for the product, but it does not reflect in stock product vs that which has been sold/booked. For example, one product was put up with 90 in stock and 68 were booked, yet it still shows 90 in the number column. J1.7.X and VM2.0

Yup, its exactly the basic demand for any e-com site.

The current "Inventory" is completely useless.

It would be great to have this as a sale report feature. Let's say I want to check during the period of May 1st to May 31st, how many item has been sold, and how many available in stock now.
