Installing VM on localhost

I am following the directions about installing VM on a Joomla site on my localhost. I go into the admin panel and into Extension Manager and Upload File and Install using the file named: com_virtuemart.1.9.8k.zip. When I try to upload it to my localhost site I get the following error:
500 - An error has occurred.
JDatabaseMySQL::query: 1146 - Table 'joomla_forb.bak_virtuemart_adminmenuentries' doesn't exist SQL=SELECT count(id) AS idCount FROM `bak_virtuemart_adminmenuentries`

is your table prefix "bak"

is this a migration? or clean joomla?

My apologies.  I must have been working with a corrupted Joomla site.  I started a new Joomla site from scratch on localhost  and installed VM successfully.
