Canonical url on product detail page

Hello I have issue with canonical url. If I click to parent product on category view canonical url on product detail page is correct (xyz.xx/category/product-detail). But If I chose some child variant of parent product in category view than page canonical url on product detail page is incorrect (xyz.xx/category/product-1-detail). I need same cannonical url for parent and child products (xyz.xx/category/product-detail). Is it possible fix it?
