How to create checkbox options for a product

I'm sure I'm just missing it but where's the option to have checkbox options on a product?  Using custom fields I've figured out how to add drop down boxes and radio buttons but for some options I have a need for check boxes and just can't seem to find a way to do it.  What am I missing?

I really wasn't looking to spend another $100 a year to have a checkbox on my product  and add a whole mess of 17+ modifications or changes to get checkboxes.

Is there no simple way within Virtuemart to add a checkbox?  Seems like very basic core functionality to me.

You can pay a developper to do the core changes for 100$ and pay him again each VM update.
For the mess of 17+ modifications , this get never called if you dont use it. 400Ko file never called, i don't think that it's a problem ?
If you prefer i can pack you the checkboxes for the same price, but remember that currenlty VM do not chek any valid values for options, perhaps it's not a problem for you, but for my customer, so this plugin exist to solve any problem in Vm and add new feature not in Vm core.
