Copy Main Top Menu and Duplicate below Header

Virtuemart 3 and Joomla 2.5.28
I am trying to duplicate the main menu buttons with rollovers and add a new menu below my header image. This would be a sub type menu. When I create a new menu and assign a position, like breadcrumbs area, it posts the menu vertical, not horizontal. I was hoping there was a way to duplicate the menu, then edit the menu item links and post below header image.

This has nothing to do with VM..  it is a basic joomla templating question
