vmbeez5 not showing wrapper or custom css code

VM3 joomla 2.5.28

I am using the vmbeez5 template, and currently have template with shownocolumns in wrapper2.
I think this is conflicting with me trying to add a 3 column div to a statement page. Ive added css to the vmbeez5.css file and nothing shows in front end.
If I test a plain html page linking to css it works fine, so I believe the shownocolumn or some other code is conflicting.

I also tried using a wrapper but that didnt work either. I know its basic question but Im totally stuck here.
