Hello everyone,

We have a few shops running Virtuemart and one problem that I've been meaning to look at for a while is this. For some reason, we receive bounce-back e-mails where a user has signed up to our store with a fake e-mail account. The shop has created a welcome message, which has been e-mailed to them but because the e-mail address is fake, the server generates an error message.

I have a couple of questions, firstly I presume that this is a script that is running somewhere and just targeting Virtuemart sites. What is the point of this?

Secondly, how can I stop it whilst ensuring users can easily register and buy stuff from our sites?

Kind regards

James

Some of my clients are plagued by this as well...

the sites seem to get on some sort of arsehole list and are targeted from multiple spammers in different countries while other sites even sharing the server never get touched

why they do it I have never really worked out.. stupidity?

You can try enabling captcha and blocking well known spam countries if they aren't your target customers ...

re captcha .. this still doesn't stop some which means they are filling the captcha to register with a stupid name and false email..  then the majority never visit again..
pointless
