Category default product detail page not working

I am working on a site running VM 2.0.12f.  I would like all products in a particular category to use the same product detail page so I set the 'Default Product Details Page' on the category to a custom product detail page I put together.  When viewing a product in this category it is not using the custom product detail page.

- If I edit a product and set the product detail page there to the custom product detail page in question it works.
- The 'Category Browse Page' for this category is set to a custom browse page and works fine.

Any thoughts?

Have you placed the template overrides in the correct template directory?  http://docs.virtuemart.net/tutorials/templating-layouts.html

That VM version is very old and extremely insecure - your issue could even be related to a bug in that version. See http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=118683.0
