Bulk associate

I am not sure what the buttons 'Bulk associate categories' and 'Bulk associate shoppergroups' does. Can someone explain me? I have tryed to look up in documentaion manuel, but didnt seem to find anything explaining this.

It allows you to associate a range of categories /shoppergroup to the selected products from the product list rather than having to do that individually
