Verification code etc

 I've read earlier discussions on the issue of activation and verification codes for new customers. From what I've read it has not been resolved --am I correct?
I've also read than in the Joomla global configuration I should be able to deactivate the need for the verification code procedure but for me it doesn't show up where it should be --has this feature been removed ? I'm using Joomla 2.5.18  and Virtuemart 2.0.26d

Asking for registration confirmation puts an extra step in the buying process and can lead to annoyance of the shopper and loss of sales.

Registration is turned off in Jooml's User Manager, on that page select the options icon, top right. Then set New User Account Activation to None.
