Parent page : display all categories with relevant items horizontally separated.

Using VirtueMart 2.0.26  (Joomla 2.5.11)
Whereas child category displays relevant contents, and I can sort them within the category, the parent (entry) page displays hundreds of items at once, in what appears to be in random order.

How would one manage to span products across relevant categories with horizontal separators as shown below ?

Baguettes Loafs Bagels

FRUITS
Bananas Oranges Apples
