Add new checkout Step

Hi all

actually i try to add a new step in the checkout process but i dont know how i should beginn it.
This step should have a login form and one normaly link for registration.

Is it possible? pls help me :/
In google i found nothing that can help me.

Since most VM users want a simplified single page checkout procedure I doubt if anyone has tried what you are looking for.
