VM2 update prompt not reflecting current version. Email stopped working

Since update to 2.0.24c, VM2 is still displaying the message:

"UPDATE FOUND! CLICK TO UPDATE.
2.0.24b"

VirueMart AIO correctly displays:

"You already have the latest version

Installed version 2.0.24c
Latest version 2.0.24c
Latest release date 2013-11-15"

As of 2.0.24c, VM has stopped sending order pending/confirmation emails.

Noteworthy that new user registration and contact form in Joomla itself work fine.

allocated memory 128M
Joomla 2.5.16
PHP 5.2.17
CentOS 64 bit

Any advice would be appreciated.
