Hiding a single category

Hi All,
Firstly I would like to apologise if this has already been answered somewhere, I have almost exhausted myself with googling to find the answer.

I have an online store running Joomla 2.5.6 and VirtueMart 2.0.20b and I wish to hide a single category. I have managed to recreate the menu to only list the category I want hidden if the user is logged in, however the home page of VirtueMart always displays this category. Short of recreating the VirtueMart homepage statically is there a way I can prevent a single category from displaying here?
