MULTIVENDOR INTEGRATION STATUS

I am a new user and intending to use Virtuemart on a Model Engineering Society web site, to sell society products. The products can be broken down into several categories which are managed by individual society members (vendors). I would like each of these vendors to have their own checkout and shipment setup on one shop site and ideally allow them some admin control (not mandatory) as well as get copies of order e mail etc. They will also have separate paypal account details.
As the super user, I would also like to be able to generate overall sales data reports for the individual or  combined set of vendors for annual reporting.

How far is multivendor now integrated and stable? Is the above currently feasible or what is still missing from the MULTIVENDOR functionality?
What version (stable) should I be working with?
