Using coupons to give discount when set figure is reached

Hi all,
I'm setting up a shop (selling dresses) using VM 2.0 & Joomla 2.5 and want to set up coupons (I think) For every $100.00 the client spends they receive a symbolic sapphire, when they collect 10 sapphires  their next dress is free.
Can this be done with VM?

an extension called awocoupon can do that easily... a $60 solution though...
