Display and Select Child Products As Radio Button/Checkbox Rather than Dropdown

I have read many topics and posts and I can't seem to find the answer!

I need to display a variety of child products on the parent product page.  However we would like the child products (different sizes with different prices) in a way other than a dropdown.  Perhaps images with radio buttons and a price.

Is this possible?  If not, can we modify Virtuemart to make it possible?
