How can I divide my product categories into 2 different menu's? I am using the Cloudbase template and I would like to have 2 different menu's for my visitors to choose from, as I have managed to do in the screen shot that I have attached. In this case, I 'cheated' and used the "manufacturers" in order to make the second menu. Is there a way I can divide my product categories in 2 menu's without cheating? Or do I need a specific Virtue Mart shop template to be able to do this?

Titia,
if you do not have too many categories

you can create a "menu" module for the separate ones you want

Creating the two menu modules is not the problem; splitting up the categories into 2 different menus is. When I assign the Menu Item Type and choose "Virtue Mart Categories layout" for menu module 1, it will then show all product categories that I have made. For the second menu module, I can only choose the same Menu Item Type, resulting in the same list of product categories. This is why I chose to use the Manufacturer Default Layout. I have now written the other product categories as different manufacturers in order to achieve a different list. I hope I am making more sense now...

What I am trying to ask is: is there a way I can assign product category 1 through 5 to menu A and product category 6 through 10 to menu B?

I found what I am looking for in an older version of VirtueMart: it's the product type (as opposed to the product category).

From the manual of VM1: "Product Type is very different in functionality than Product Category, but both have the mission to describe products. Generaly the Category describes the usage of products, but the Product Type describes products based to specific parameters values, and extends the basic description of the Category."

How do I assign a product type to a product in VirtueMart2?

product types are not a "core" 2.0 function.
There are plugins that can do this, but I do not know one.

for 20 categories, I would just create joomla html modules
