no metatags on virtuemart front page

If making the virtuemart front page to default page in Joomla, there are no metatags like keyword or description shown on that page. Did enter a description text into the backend of Virtuemart 2.0.12f and did even enter in the Joomla Menu, where it links to Virtuemart (the default page), a meta description and some meta keywords, but the site page does not show that. It is not a very good idea especially with search engines to not give a description metatag. Only the site title seems to work. Did look into the backend but obviously there is no way to enter those informations except in the Joomla menu itself, which makes the VM front page to the default page. The title tag seems to work but not the other meta tags.
Any idea how to achieve display of meta tags on the front page without using the default global meta tags defined in Joomla configuration?

Did find finally out the following:
It is not a Virtuemart specific problem, that happens for example with other components too. So it seems to be that the Joomla startpage, in my case the virtuemart front page, can only use the global metatags, if a component page is the start page.
