Images are showing up huge when published

Hello,

I am new to virtuemart and I am creating my first e-commerce site, when I choose an image for my products when i press save and go back into the product image section the image has taken over a huge part of the page, this also carries through to the front end part of the site when published. I cant see an option to re-size the image in virtuemart, and I have even re-sized them before uploading them with no luck.
