Generic child variant ordering

the child fields in the drop down are not ordering properly.  how can I fix the ordering for that drop down.

Joomla 2.5.7  VM 2.0.12e

I have tried every option to get the ordering to work. I have looked at it from how they are entered to how the Generic child variant sorts by SKU and once I get past 3 to 4 child items the order becomes random.  I have 50+ child variants.  This weird random ordering just will not work.  Does anyone have some sort of a patch or anything that will work??  This is completely insane and I have wasted days trying to figure it out.
