I have read through all the posts regarding this, and they are very confusing!!

I have a flypage from the version of VM that I was using, it was PERFECT for my needs.  Now I want to make the product details page and category pages display differently and frankly my experience with PHP is not advanced enough to do this alone.  I am desperate as I have to have this site live by Friday next week. Please could someone help me with step by step instructions as which are very blonde friendly (no offense to blondes I am one) so that I can continue with other issues and go live?

Hello,

It's difficult someone help you with step by step because no ones know what you want't to do. Unfortunately you have to do it by your own and if you have targeted questions you can always post here. Take a look on the templates & layout sections that will be always helpfull. You will need some PHP, CSS, HTML knowledge.

First you will have to know how to use firebug to examine your site: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=102850.0
Then you have to learn how you could make template overrides: http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=98505.0 and here http://dev.virtuemart.net/projects/virtuemart/wiki/Hints_for_the_use_of_the_template_system

In the template & layouts section you will be able to find all the necessary information for fly page, product details page, etc http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?board=130.0

Thanks I will go read and see how far I get.

Mostly I want to remove some things that are showing and add some things that are not showing on the current page.

http://www.transatlanticcreations.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=31&virtuemart_category_id=91

thats a link to a product.

I need the old < > for product navigation (there is more than 1 product in the category)
spaces between the information and lines to show different sections (it looks rather yuck as it is now)
a button for ask a question about this product
it is showing 2 prices, I only need Price not final price or sales price, a simple price!!
the related products look yuck as they are, would be better if it was just the images to the related products with 3 next to one another

so ... in short ....

< > buttons right at the top (below the back to category link is fine)
a space between the short description and the image of the product
the image name and rating to be taken out completely
price to read as price without the extra blank price above it
a space between that information and the add to cart information
the + and - to show on the buttons next to the quantity
the add to cart button to be a little bigger and not that colour (but also not the disasterous green of the other template)
a space then a full line below this information then a ask a question about this product button
a space then the product description
the number in kg's to be gone
a full line
the related products showing as images only and 3 in 1 row not as they are now
then a full line above the reviews section.

i did try and upload the old flypage after renaming it to default, it gave me an error.
i then tried to change the default page myself and it gave me another error.

i know it looks and sounds like a hell of a lot of changes, but i also know for someone who has more knowledge of php it would be easy to show me where i am going wrong.

i will read the links you supplied in the meantime though.  if you could help me i would be eternally grateful.

I think you could try http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?board=18.0 for an amount ... because someone have to dedicate some time for that. You could always search the template and layouts section and study the default vm templates ...

I don't mind paying for help, and I have looked at the default.php template, that is what I tried to change myself, but I got an error instead.

I will post and see if I get a response and how much people would want to charge me.  I dont mind paying I just dont have a capital to dig into.

Thanks :)
