Strange search issue, not working using Category layout from menu manager

My VM is working 100% well, and it is almost "perfect" except for the search under a specific condition.

My categories are A-Z and "numbers", so 27 total categories total.

Using the menu manager, I've created 6 links to various parts of the site and cart.

The menu types are:

VirtueMart » List Orders
VirtueMart » Account Maintenance    
Users Manager » User Profile
VirtueMart » Category Layout
VirtueMart » Category Layout
Articles » Single Article

If I search for "Widget1" with the search box in position 12 as a registered user.  The results are:

VirtueMart » List Orders -------- Widget1 Found
VirtueMart » Account Maintenance -------- Widget1 Found
Users Manager » User Profile -------- Widget1 Found
VirtueMart » Category Layout -------- Widget1 NOT Found
VirtueMart » Category Layout -------- Widget1 NOT Found
Articles » Single Article -------- Widget1 Found

So when the link uses Category layout and I search for ANYTHING, it always returns NOT FOUND.  I could be in the categories A and search for "Axle" nothing returns.  If I search for Axle using anything but Category layout, all the Axles will show up.

I've turned on and off in the module manager "filter category" option.  The plugin is enabled, the module is enabled.

I need this one last thing fixed.....any idea where this is going wrong?
