Can I export just categories and products

My client's current site is using Joomla 1.5 and VM 1.1.6. I am doing a complete redesign for them from the ground up. The current site is hideous and the only thing i want to preserve is all of those products and categories so that noboday has to copy and paste all of that data. They are only using virtuemart as a product catalog. Can I somehow export just the products and categories and import into the new site? The new site is on Joomla 2.5 and i will want the latest version of VM. I appreciate any help. I'm a Joomla noob but an experienced web designer.

You Can Export And Import Them.
There Is CSVI which has export and import functions
There is Advanced CSV which has import functions, image import, and multiple product image import

If you are a Joomla! noob, you may want to consult a book or good online course
Or join a user group. I'm a member of the New York Joomla User Group. User groups are great.

You'll save a lot of time if you buy a commercial template.

You can override the Virtuemart templates. Don't hack them. Override them. Plenty of online documentation on how to do it. It may seem complicated, but there is very good reason to stick to the MVC structure.
